Ordinary Heroes

I'm just reading Ordinary Heroes by Scott Turow. I won't lie to you. I bought it on a whim, because I liked the cover. I wanted a thriller sort of thing, I find WW2 interesting so why not? And then, because it was a whim, it sort of lounged around on my bookshef whilst I read all sorts of other things. Anyway I started it this week and I'm really really enjoying it. It's basically about a lawyer who discovers his father fought in WW2 and sets off to discover the truth. Half is from his perspective, the other from his father's. I won't say anymore but it's slurped me right in, especially the bit about the Battle of the Bulge. Try it, you might like it too.

Linking

Apparently now you can link your Twitter to your myspace via facebook. Superb I thought, I only need to update one. However due to a few teething troubles it doesn't seem to work. Hmmm, great idea though! I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

Oh and whilst we're on the subject the new Myspace design doesn't do it for me yet. It looks very flashy but finding the things I want now seems very complicated. I'm getting used to it but I find it very slow. Yet another reason why facebook won the war I suppose.

Kindle-ing

Yes, let's talk about electronic books such as Amazon's Kindle. Yes I think it's a good idea, but I'm also aware it's a very 'Marmite' thing. Some people love it some hate it. I'm defiantely in the second category, but if it works for you then why not? For me a book is a little passage to another world, a papery thing, something substantial to hold. And that is as much a part of the experience as the actual reading. Plus, I hate reading from a screen and after staring at one all day the last thing I want to do is strain my eyes further peering at a flat lifeless display. Of coruse a Kindle is more portable, probably cheaper, better for the environment, doesn't take up half your house etc. But, for me, the experience isn't the same.
And in favour for both, you can't drop either in the bath. Anyway that sort of thing isn't for me. But if it works for you then go ahead, by all means get one, get two, why not have a mutlicoloured set to match your mood...
But please leave me with my papery ones :-)
